The USAID Improving Private Sector Competitiveness (IPSC) Project has made significant strides in strengthening Vietnam’s private sector by addressing regulatory barriers, enhancing business capacity, and promoting sustainable economic growth. Funded by USAID and led by the Agency for Enterprise Development (AED) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the project has directly supported thousands of small and growing businesses (SGBs), including those owned by women and disadvantaged groups.
MBI Innovation is a subcontractor implementing this project in Vietnam.
Key Achievements (as of September 30, 2024):
4,529 SGBs received customized training, one-on-one coaching, and business matching support.
2,168 SGBs supported were women-owned or women-led.
7,278 staff from SGBs received business skills training to enhance expertise and contribute to business growth.
35 pioneering enterprises (PEs) in high-value sectors received targeted support to develop Vietnamese brands for domestic and international markets.
19% average revenue increase for SGBs after receiving technical assistance.
87% of SGBs improved management practices or adopted new technologies.
240 SGBs successfully accessed regional and international markets.
The project has also played a crucial role in shaping Vietnam’s business-enabling environment by engaging:
185 government agencies at national and local levels in evidence-based policy discussions.
66 business associations and business support organizations (BSOs) in policymaking.
49 legal documents received policy recommendations, with five approved by the Government of Vietnam.
Furthermore, IPSC’s public-private dialogue and policy reform efforts helped streamline household business registration, enhance access to finance, and improve labor productivity. The project mobilized $9 million in private sector resources and deployed 22 national and international experts to support regulatory and institutional reforms. Through these efforts, IPSC has contributed to a more competitive, resilient, and inclusive private sector in Vietnam, fostering long-term economic growth and innovation.
